Macbook and Ipad?! help!?

i get a macbook through my high school for the school year but have recently discovered how great the IPAD is. i found a refurbished 16 gb first generation IPAD at $350. I am very involved with several things in my school and feel as if the planner on the IPAD would be easily transported and better to use for planning events. is it actually worth buying it if i get a macbook, but for only the few months out of the year? thanks so much for input!
