My Maid of Honor isn't a planner and has no money. Should I plan my party and showers?

I have had the same best friend since elementary school. I can't imagine anyone else standing next to me on at the alter but she has a poor track record for planning anything. In addition to never being able to commit to planning events she's also incredibly restricted financially. I don't want to offend her by saying that I'll plan my parties but I can't rely on her to take care of it. What should I do??!!
