Why do people kiss St. Peter's toe?

...to the point that it has to be replaced regularly.....and not think that is idol worship? Aaaaaand, why does St. Peter's Basilica look like a conglomerate of pagan worship tools straight outta Babylon? And doesn't that St. Peter statue bear a striking resemblance to Jupiter/Zeus? And why is there an obelisk there? Something isn't right about this. Can someone explain how this is okay by the bible?
