Advice, should I date this guy?

Okay so I have a close group of friends of about 6 girls. And one of my friends has recently been bringing this other girl around. I've known this girl for a few years now but never really spent time with her because I've always thought of her to be trashy. But I'm nice to her and put up with her whenever she's around me and my friends. Anyway, one of my good friend had a party and that girl I'm not fond of lost her virginity to this guy named James at the party. They had sex after that time too. At another party I was having a discussion with James because he wasn't talking to that girl anymore (let's call us Tam). Then a few days ago me and James were with friends and we were having another conversation and he was telling me how he wants to settle down and that Tam is not a girl to do that with. He even said how I'm a good girl and admired how I wanted to wait. He even mentioned once that he should talk to me. He kept saying that he wants a good girl to settle down with and have a relationship with. I know he was trying to flirt with me or at least let me know he was interested and I am too but would that make me a bad friend? Or even a bad person? Because me and Tam aren't great friends but what would my friends think of me doing that because she does hang out with us sometimes. I'd also like to add that he was a virgin before having sex with Tam so he is not a player. What's your thoughts on this?
